I am a Badass (At Starting My Blog)

It was 7 years ago the first time that I can remember telling someone about my intentions to start a food blog. For 7 years, I have planned, discussed and sought feedback on my ideas for my initial foray into blogging. During those same 7 years, I also kept coming back to the same reasons for waiting to begin, including but not limited to:

  • I am not a professionally trained chef
  • I am not particularly skilled at photography or web design
  • I don’t have enough time to dedicate to a blog
  • Nobody will ever visit my site and I will have wasted all of my time and efforts for nothing

And so the idea of starting a food blog, while always fun to fantasize about, stayed just that – an idea. I didn’t feel any urgency to begin until recently, when I read the self-love book (yes, self-love because I hate the word self-help), You are a Badass by Jen Sincero. In the book, Jen wrote an irrefutable truth that has flipped a switch inside of me:

“Nobody who ever accomplished anything big or new or worth raising a celebratory fist in the air did it from their comfort zone. They risked ridicule and failure and sometimes even death.”

And here we are today – I have decided to risk ridicule and failure (but most likely not death) to get out of my comfort zone and share my love of food and drinks with you.  I have had a love affair with food for as long as I can remember, which only intensified when I became of legal age to purchase alcohol and realized the amazing things that can be done when the two are combined.

With this blog, I will be experimenting all of the different ways that my favorite dishes can be spiced up with the inclusion of wine, beer or spirits and share my latest creations as an amateur, homebound mixologist.  I hope that you will come along for the ride.
